We first met on a warm Thursday evening in Edinburgh, and went for dinner at BABA on George Street (would recommend making a booking if you have some spare time around the wedding). We talked all night, through dinner, drinks at Tigerlily, at later trying Fergus' rum Askival (which will be available at the wedding, don't worry!) and watching the stars. There was such a sense of familiarity from that first meeting - and before the night was through, we had planned the second, third and fourth dates... all to occur over the next week.

Around a month later, we travelled across to the Isle of Rùm, where Askival is produced. We fell in love at the same moment, dancing around the fire-pit in a BBQ hut on the island. There were musicians playing, fresh fish being cooked on the fire, and extensive amounts of rum being consumed. We fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning on the deer hides, drunk and absolutely enamoured.

Practically inseparable from that first date, we got engaged on a small, wooden, Italian-style boat out in Sydney Harbour 2 ½ years later. Coincidentally, we got engaged on the southern hemispheres summer solstice of 2023, and will be married on the summer solstice in Edinburgh later this year.

 

We can't wait for you to join us there, in a place that is at the centre of our story. For the Aussies, get ready for a weekend of bagpipes, cèilidhs and drams - and finally settle the debate over which nationality parties harder.
